Achacha (Garcinia humilis) is a tropical fruit native to the Amazon Basin of Bolivia and a member of the mangosteen family. Gaining international popularity in recent years, particularly in Australia where it is now commercially grown, Achacha is prized for its refreshing, tangy-sweet flavor. The fruit is egg-shaped, about the size of a small plum, with a bright orange skin and soft, white, juicy pulp surrounding a single seed.
Its taste is often described as a perfect balance between sweet and sour, somewhat similar to mangosteen with citrusy notes. Achacha is typically eaten fresh by slicing the skin and squeezing out the flesh, but it’s also used in drinks, desserts, and jams. Rich in vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants, it offers nutritional benefits alongside its delicious flavor.
The rind is traditionally used in Bolivia to make a lightly bitter, health-promoting tea believed to aid digestion and support metabolism.
