Marang fruit (Artocarpus odoratissimus) is a tropical delicacy native to Borneo and the southern Philippines. Closely related to jackfruit and breadfruit, marang grows on tall trees and produces large, green, spiky fruits with a strong but pleasant aroma when ripe. Inside, the fruit contains soft, white to pale-yellow segments that are juicy, sweet, and fragrant, often described as a blend of banana, pineapple, and custard.
The fruit is highly perishable and begins to ferment soon after being opened, making it difficult to export and best enjoyed fresh near its growing regions. Marang is rich in vitamins, particularly vitamin C, and offers dietary fiber and antioxidants. Traditionally, it is eaten raw, but in some local cuisines, it may also be used in desserts.
Because of its creamy texture and intense fragrance, marang is beloved by many tropical fruit enthusiasts and is considered one of the finest-tasting fruits in Southeast Asia.
Plant comes in a 14cm deep pot similar to the picture.
